For several years, I worked as a contractor with the California Strong Motion Instrumentation Program (SMIP) which is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the seismic instrument network for the state of California.

During my time there, I revamped/migrated the Field Operations process, from an antiquated process that relied on maintaining multiple spreadsheets and an Access database to a single Azure DevOps database that tracked the health of the seismic network, tracked the status of Field Operations tasks, and reported status of all items in Azure DevOps dashboards.

The first figure shows the high level architecture I developed in the backend Azure DevOps database.

The second figure shows a detailed process flow for updating DevOps based on monthly scripts that determine the State of Health of the seismic network and based on the monthly incremental aging of field equipment.
